Star Tribune:
Long live Birch’s!
City Pages:
Birch's roadside supper club on Highway 12 in Long Lake serves younger diners in baseball caps and tank tops who look like they just hopped off their Harleys, alongside older patrons in khakis and sweaters who look like they just docked their yachts. . . . Among the list of pizzas, sandwiches, walleye, and fried chicken, standouts include the pastrami-smoked salmon and the zucchini fries, which tasted like a hybrid of French fries and eggplant Parmesan and were good enough that a kid actually set down his portable video game to sample a few.
Minneapolis-St. Paul Magazine:
The menu is full of comfortable, familiar food such as chops and steaks, which are dry-aged on the premises. The hallmark dish is chicken-in-the-rough . . . hearty sandwiches, big salads, and flatbreads round out the something-for-everyone offerings. Birch’s seems to be striving for . . . hominess and fluency.
Open Table:
I loved the salmon. It was the best salmon dish I've had in a very long time.
We would go back!
Birch's has really struck a nice balance in their menu offerings. There are sandwiches and flatbread (pizza) choices for the kids and more adventurous entrees for the adults. The seafood was excellent.
Always good! I like eating at the bar. Friendly staff and owner! Food always delicious! Will be back soon!
It is a small and cozy, family run restaurant with dedicated knowledgeable staff. We will definitely return.
The Stone Crabs were wonderful, as was the side dish of Brussel Sprouts with Nueske Bacon. Very friendly staff.
The service was good and the food was outstanding. We had stone crab claws as an appetizer that was delicious and for dinner we each had the surf and turf special which was sea scallops and lamb chops which was the best meal I have had in a while.
Our server and food from the moment we sat down was amazing. We'll definitely go back
Excellent place to eat. The salmon with soy glaze is out of this world.
Trip Adviser:
Fantastic fries—they are worth the hype.
Clearly, this restaurant deserves support. I had the walleye, and I have not had better. I highly recommend it. Others at the table gave very strong ratings to the pizza of the week (pesto sauce and mushrooms - wonderful), the French fries (delicious), the mashed potatoes (very, very good), the burger (it was a burger, but it was a very good burger), and the chicken in the rough. But first get the walleye.
It's still nice enough to be a good place for a "date night." It's a welcome alternative. .

Well-worth the drive. They are very prompt seating their patrons. Romantic atmosphere with the dim lights and cozy seating, but also fun for a quiet dinner with some friends . . . Food is fantastic.
This is a gem of a place . . . and the service is great. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Will for surely go back again.
In a single word...amazing!
